A renewable energy matrix like no other
While most nations are struggling to reach 50% renewable electricity, Brazil already generates 95% of its electricity from clean sources — primarily hydroelectric, wind, and solar. This extraordinary baseline gives the country a structural advantage in the global energy transition that few competitors can match.
But Brazil is far from resting on its laurels. The country has assembled a $629 billion clean energy investment pipeline through 2040, encompassing offshore wind, green hydrogen, advanced solar, and biomass projects that will reshape the global energy landscape.
The offshore wind frontier
Brazil's coastline stretches over 7,400 kilometers, and its consistent trade winds create some of the highest capacity factors in the world for offshore wind generation. The country's offshore wind pipeline now stands at 189 GW — a figure that would make Brazil one of the top three offshore wind markets globally.
Brazil combines three advantages that no other country offers simultaneously: an already-clean grid, world-class renewable resources, and a domestic industrial base capable of manufacturing components at scale.
The regulatory framework for offshore wind concessions is now in place, and the first commercial-scale projects are expected to begin construction in 2027, creating an immediate window for early-stage investment.
Green hydrogen: the Pecem mega-hub
The $18 billion Pecem green hydrogen hub in Ceara is emerging as one of the most ambitious clean energy projects on the planet. Located in northeastern Brazil, where solar irradiation and wind speeds are among the highest in the Americas, Pecem is designed to produce green hydrogen at costs competitive with gray hydrogen by 2030.
- Production target: 1.7 million tons of green hydrogen annually by 2032
- Export focus: direct shipping routes to Europe, reducing transport costs by 40% compared to Middle Eastern alternatives
- Job creation: estimated 50,000 direct and indirect jobs during the construction phase
- Partner ecosystem: Fortescue, EDP, Casa dos Ventos, and other major players already committed
Solar investment surging
Brazil is projected to attract $5.8 billion in solar energy investment in 2026 alone, driven by distributed generation programs, utility-scale projects in Minas Gerais and Bahia, and rapidly declining panel costs. The country now ranks among the top five solar markets globally by installed capacity.
Combined with Brazil's biofuels expertise — the country is the world's second-largest ethanol producer — the energy transition represents a multi-decade investment theme with diversified entry points across technologies and risk profiles.
